IMPLEMENTATION APPROACH

RESEARCH MONITORING AND DOCUMENTATION

We research, monitor and document health practices and identify violations of the right to health, a healthy environment and development. We publish magazines, books and bulletins on health, environment and our work. We also focus on analyzing health policies and legislation, monitor their proper implementation and develop indicators for analyzing government’s performance in its obligation to promote health and development.

ADVOCACY

We engage institutions of the law, health authorities, corporate bodies and government agencies concerned with health and development in outreach and advocacy programs. We seek and demand accountability from governments and corporate actors through lobbying, publications, networking, campaigns and coalition building, and advocate for policy formulation for the promotion and protection of the right to health, a healthy environment and development.

POLICY REFORM

We engage policy official at local state and national levels on pertinent issues requiring change through reformation of policies and enactment of appropriate legislation, such a harmful practices. We undertake focused meeting with relevant officials to dialogue and deliberate, we also present project and colloquium outcomes to policy officials and lobby for inclusion in existing policies through reformation.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

We conduct capacity building training programs and educative workshops for birth attendants, medical personnel, vulnerable women, girls and returnees and community groups on reproductive health, environment and other areas of health. We undertake mobilization, movement building and information sharing to raise awareness about the environment and health as a human right issue among individuals, communities, healthcare providers, policy makers, corporate actors in the environment, community groups, the media and the general public through campaigns, publications, training and sensitization programs. We also operate a library and resource center with computer and Internet access to information on law, health, women, environment and sustainable development.

INTERVENTIONS, PROVISION OF FACILITIES & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

We undertake interventions regarding environment, health and developmental activities and engage in the provision of basic sustainable projects to aid community health and development such as water and sanitation projects. We also undertake economic empowerment programs for women through vocational skills acquisition training programs with provision of micro-credit loans. This builds their confidence and capacity to deal with poverty/lack of employment, high risk health behaviors, frustration, violence and conflicts, lack of confidence and male dependence.

LITIGATION

We provide legal counseling and support public interest litigation to groups and communities seeking to assert their social and economic rights particularly their right to health, a healthy environment and development. We also provide legal support to marginalized women and widows.

COLLABORATION

We develop partnerships and collaborative activities with both local and international organizations on the right to health and the development of women and girls, and mobilize individuals and communities affected by human rights violations to engage relevant actors and demand accountability.
